Don’t ask Aspen cabbie Jon Barnes to pick you up at the airport, because there’s no toom in his ’79 Checker for your luggage or skis. He’s go it loaded with an incredible sound system, a couple of keyboards, synthesizers, a mirror ball, a fog machine, colored lights, and al the other paraphernalia needed for a nightclub act on wheels,, a drive-around disco without a dance floor, or, as Barnes puts it, a legal trip.    

He calls it the Ultimate Taxi. There’s even a miniature Sony TV studio so that passengers can make their own music videos.    Barnes is one part cab driver and three-parts showman, and people don’t actually go anywhere in his Ultimate Taxi. They cruise around town simply for the expierence. One couple staged a wedding in the back of the cab, which can hold five in comfort, six in a crush.    A 20 minute Ultimate Taxi ride is $40. “You’re paying for the fun. The ride is free,” says Jon.
